Age 57 - last period at 56 - first symptoms at 48

I suffer from PMDD, so my symptoms became a lot more extreme as I got older. I was taking sertraline to assist, but it started to become non effectual regarding my moods and irritability and depression so I asked to be referred to see the Monash Alfred Women's Mental Health Clinic where I saw an incredible endocrinologist who asked me not about my symptoms but to explain the story of my family upbringing and then said it definitely sounded like I had PMDD caused by CPTSD. Anyway, they explained that as oestrogen drops, PMDD gets worse and everything else. I certainly was feeling like I should be in the prime of my life, and I was always feeling worse than ever. They put me on a tablet form of HRT. I also have been seeing a GP about weight, as PMDD can make you binge eat, as well as the normal menopausal effects on weight gain around the middle and I am still seeing her for weight issues. Anyway, I have since progressed to using patches and now oestrogen gel. In addition to having a mirena fitted, as my periods were continuing and getting very long and very heavy. Eventually after one year with the mirena, the periods started to get less heavy, but I still get some spotting. In terms of how I feel, I feel that being on HRT and continuing the sertraline is life saving.
